The Cost Plus Fee Contract...A collaborative approach to a successful project.

More often than not, prospective clients are looking for the lowest bid as they "shop" their project to potential contractors.  Clients employ the competitive bidding system to arrive at what they assume is the lowest price for their project.  Unfortunately, this process has it's flaws and can lead to issues that may derail a project once started.  Architect Bob Borson has written a great article on why he believes the Cost Plus Fee approach can lead to a better working relationship and, drumroll please, an affordable and in budget project.  From a collaborative working relationship to an open-book accounting system, the Cost Plus Fee approach can be a win-win for your upcoming project.  Take a read through Bob's article (just click the link below) and let us know what you think.

You've spent months designing your project.  You've picked the materials, hired a contractor, agreed to a budget and are ready to start swinging those hammers.  Despite all of your homework, do you really know what to expect?

Construction projects inherently create a disruption to your life.  While the dust, the debris, the stacks of materials and the wet paints and finishes are a sign of progress, are you truly prepared to get started.  The folks over at Better Homes and Gardens have put together a helpful "Survival Guide" to help you prepare for when the work really gets started.   Click on the link below to check out the article and while you're there, get some great ideas for your next project.
